Well, another week has flown by. Remember how January seemed to last forever? A couple of days ago, I heard someone say, “We’re on the downhill of March.” I checked the date on my watch, and sure enough, they were right.
Spring is officially here! Thank goodness.
Due to the mostly delightful weather, I’ve been spending more time on the screened-in porch. I had it added to the house several years ago using the tax refund I received after I moved in. The deck was already here, but the enclosure wasn’t. It is one of the best purchases of my life. I love it! And we’ve begun to let the cats out here this year as well. They, and the dog, love it, too.
Speaking of spring, renewals, and new things, there may be something on the horizon for me. I’ve previously written about being in the process of moving toward something new. The waiting continues. However, there has been some movement, which is promising. I have reason to feel hopeful.
I hope the commencement of the new season inspires and encourages you to keep going, even when life is challenging. Keep working toward your goals. They may seem impossible at times but are more than likely achievable. I believe changes in life and within ourselves happen in what Martha Beck calls “one-degree turns.” They’re slight changes in everyday life that eventually add up and put you on a direct course toward the life you want.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve witnessed this process within myself. I’ve been working on processing childhood trauma, among other things. Today, I met a couple of people who have had experiences similar to mine. I know some of their strife and what it’s like for life to feel unmanageable. I was able to see how far I have come.
That’s not to say that I don’t feel confused or stuck at times because I still do. Most of the time I feel like I haven’t made much progress at all. Today’s conversation showed me that all the work I’ve done has not been in vain. My brain is rewiring. Growth is happening. I am changing.
It's like if you have a plant that you tend to every day. Because you see it regularly, you don’t necessarily see its growth. Then, you go on vacation for a week. When you return, the plant seems to have grown exponentially.
We don’t always see change as it’s happening. Sometimes it takes some distance or the reflection of someone else to help us see our progress for what it is.
Change is inevitable. I’m here to remind you that good change can happen, too. Keep taking care of yourself. Keep working toward your goals. You may not see your progress right now, but it’s happening.
